Although there has obviously been a slow down in property (real estate) sales market throughout Spain and the Spanish islands in the last few years, Almeria Province and to a greater extent the Costa Almeria Property has stood up reasonably well, although it has to be stated, that it started from a very much lower base. This was almost certainly due to the lack of major international airports and without the budget flights effect it had been that much more difficult to fly to, especially for short and weekend breaks.

The recent redevelopment and upgrading of San Javier (or Murcia Airport)has helped in the northern most part of the Costa Almeria, bringing many resorts within a reasonable drive. Property values are probably lower there than the other more popular tourist towns in Spain and there are certainly some bargains to be found on or near the coast. Plus, if you are ready to venture a few kilometres inland you can get a lot more "villa" for your money. Villas and older style houses can be obtained for less than you would pay for a static park home in England and less than half the price of a small two bedroom flat or apartment further south on the Costa del Sol. Old country houses or Cortijos that need a renovation job are available for the more adventurous buyer to undertake, and some are very big with up to eight bedrooms.

A further advantage is that the Costa Almeria still has more of that Spanish feel, not like the ever more popular Costa Blanca further north, you will not find a genuine English pub or Irish bar on every street corner. Also the Costa Almeria weather is perfect, with a very dry climate, plenty of sunshine and sunny, mild winters, making it an all year round tourist destination, especially for golf and sports fans that are keen to get away from the wet and cold of northern Europe in the spring and autumn.

So if you prefer the more sedate type of holiday and want to get away from the bustle of the more traditional destinations in Spain, the property in the resorts and towns of the wonderful Costa Almeria may be worth a look for that dream villa in the sun.
