Firstly the basic info everyone should know, Tenerife is biggest of the Canary Islands, Spain, so the main language is of course, Spanish. The climate is wonderful, warm in the winter and hot in the long summer, but the north and south of Tenerife island varies considerably, the northern part is more humid (and therefore much greener), with the southern section very dry and almost desert like. The prime reason for this has to do with the fact that the island is much closer to Africa than Europe, with the prevailing winds rising sharply over the huge Mount Teide volcano, creating these 2 micro-climates on this small volcanic island.

With 2 airports Tenerife Island is well served for both international and internal flights, though most British visitors arrive in the south via Sur Reina which is much more convenient for the holiday towns, with transfers taking less than 60 minutes more so if you have one of the local maniac cab drivers).

The Tenerife holiday resorts cater for all tastes, from the most basic package holiday, through to 5 star hotels and villas, in fact whatever your holday budget you are sure locate accommodation to suit your pocket. Quality restaurants are plentiful, as are the ever popular takeaways and fast food outlets. Nightlife can be found to suit all possible tastes, whether you only want to karaoke the evening away, go dancing till dawn, watch the sky channels in a "local pub" or see a show, you will not be lacking for a good choice.

Most tourists never stray very far from the pool or 1 of the many nice beaches (some have the famous black sand) during the day time, which can be a shame as there is lots on offer. Plenty of trips and tours can be taken on Tenerife, most are offered with local pick up places or just hire a car (very cheap prices) and drive you and your family. The most popular tour has to be the visit to Mount Teide (do not worry though, it has not erupted for a couple of million years) to get the most fanrastic views, a lunar type landscape of old lava flows, you can drive to the base station and get a cable car virtually to the summit, but do not forget to take some warmer clothes, it can be very chilly up there.

The other Tenerife attractions include most of the usual visitor favourites, like water parks, animal zoos, local museums and the many first class sports available including top notch golf. Being an island it would not surprise you much that water sports and pleasure boat tours are very widely available, with first class wind surfing, yachting and sub aqua diving to the more sedate pleasure trips offering glimpses of perhaps pilot whales or dolphin pods and party trips.
