Arenal Tourism Free Article (see Terms)
Arenal is located on the east of the Bay of Palma on Mallorca. Also called S Arenal or even El Arenal, this holiday resort is very popular with the German visitors, especially in the peak season, although it does get its fair share of English, Dutch and also Spanish holiday makers. Arenal is not as renowned as the other big holiday resorts of Mallorca, but it does have a lovely palm lined beach of fine sand which slopes into the warm, shallow seas of the bay. There is also an excellent selection of restaurants, bars and clubs.

Arenal beach runs for over 4 miles (or 6km) as far as the nearby resort of C an Pastilla in the north and along it is a recently renovated prom lined with a selection of apartments and hotels. The esplanade is flat and very wide, making it ideal for bicyclists and disabled. If you are feeling a bit lazy there is a mini fun train that runs by the trail between Arenal to C an Pastilla. Spread alongside the beach are 12 plus bathing stations or "Balnearios". Reminiscent of old English beach huts, these balnearios have showers, toilets and mostly a kiosk vending snacks and refreshments.

At night the esplanade comes to life, as all the restaurants and pavement bars all compete for your custom. With the glittering lights of Palma de Mallorca visible over the bay, the front is a nice place to go for an evening stroll. Most of the nightlife is geared toward the German visitors, but there are also a few UK establishments, such as the Sportsman, found close to the Arenal marina, which has live footy and good food. Other popular UK bars include the Beachcombers and the Hole in the Wall. If you wish to find something a bit more Spanish, there are local bars in the streets off the seafront.

The biggest water park on Mallorca, Aqualand, is located on the edge of Arenal near to the motorway. This very popular aqua park offers a variety of flumes, chutes and fun pools with names such as the Grand Canyon, the Tsunami and the Devils Tail. There are plenty of attractions in Aqualand to keep every age groups amused. Younger children will enjoy the petting zoo and parrot displays, while teenagers will love the thrills on slides like the Kamikaze. The water park also has green areas in which to relax, plus a selection of cafes and restaurants. Golf Fantasia is also one of the popular attractions in Arenal. This most enjoyable crazy golf course has 54 holes, all set in a Jurassic Park style setting.

Arenal is located just over 6 miles (or about 10km) from the island capital of Palma de Mallorca, and only 4 miles (or 6km) from Palma airport. There are frequent and well priced bus services between Arenal and Palma. Cabs from the airport to Arenal will cost about twelve euros, although this may vary depending on the time of day and how much luggage. The tourist information office is found on the Placa Reina Maria Cristina and is open between April and October only.
