Lanzarote in the Canary Islands of Spain is a premier tourist destination of Europe, even though it is much closer to the African coast. Spanish political administration and stability has increased the attraction in the more recent years ensuring that an ever increasing number of tourists continue to visit.

The wonderful climate is one of the prime lures, with all year round sun, little rain and temperatures averaging nearly 20 degrees nearly guaranteeing perfect holiday weather in all of the four seasons. In actual fact it is among the top holiday destinations for Europeans in mid winter especially at Christmas time and the New Years break, after all what could be better than spending your Christmas Day on a beautiful beach?

There are plenty of pristine Lanzarote beaches of very fine golden sand and large dunes to satisfy even the most fussy of visitors, all leading down to the clear azure waters of the warm Atlantic. The steady breezes and wave conditions have ensured Lanzarote is a popular stop for surfers and wind surfers. Mid summer sea temperatures of just over twenty degrees mean it is also great for the other water sports, with swimming, snorkelling, sub aqua diving, kite sailing, water skiing and parasailing well catered for by local companies.

For those visitors that can tear themselves from the pool of beach for a couple of hours, Lanzarote has loads of other tourist attractions. Try a coach tour of rural Lanzarote or at the very least a tour of the National Park of Timanfaya and see the quite amazing volcanic landscape, often resembling the surface of mars in some places, you can even take a ride on a camel! Tour buses can be pre booked from all the major towns with pick up points in all the main resorts of Lanzarote.

As you would expect to find, there is a large choice of quality accommodation in either a tourist hotel or self catering rental apartments and villas. The costs vary from the low budget to the more upmarket end of the market, so you will be certain to find a place to suit your budget. The small international airport of Lanzarote is never far in distance so you will not have to be concerned about a boring, tedious hotel transfer at the beginning and end of your journey.

The biggest holiday resort on Lanzarote is Playa Blanca, with Puerto del Carmen and Costa Teguise not far behind, plus there are loads more smaller and quieter towns all over the island. If you are wanting a livelier vacation, you would certainly be better off residing in one of the main resorts, as they will have loads more entertainment choices than you could possibly need or want, including dance clubs and discos for the younger or older generation.

Your Lanzarote holiday would not be complete without tasting the local food, so try some of the local friendly tapas bars and fine seafood restaurants. There is also a good selection of international restaurants, and bars, offering the varieties and styles of cuisine from right across the world, even the famous fast food chains are found there.
