In my humble opinion, Los Cristianos (in Arona, Tenerife) has been developed into the ideal family holiday resort. With the advantage of its wonderful climate, with very long very and hot summers, plus warm and relatively dry winters, (it is a tiny piece of Europe just off the African coastline) Los Cristianos has grown rapidly over the last fifty years from a tiny fishing village to the premier holiday destination it is today. It is fast and quite easy to get to with plenty of flights to the local airport from all over the Britain and nortern Europe, Reina Sofia International airport is only just over 10 miles away so there is no long and tedious coach or car journey either.

There is plenty of accommodation to suit everybody in Los Cristianos, from modern 5 star hotels and top quality self catering apartments to the cheaper package holiday style apart hotels. All the holiday and sports facilities the modern visitor expects can be located in Los Cristianos or a quick ride away, including the fine beaches, which are top class (with black sand) and there are all the typical water sports, showers, sunbeds and cafes at hand. As you would probably expect the restaurants cater for every possible taste, from the fast food chains, family friendly restaurants and multi national takeaways to the tapas bars offering the local Spanish and Canarian cuisine, all at extremely reasonable prices.

In the late evening Los Cristianos springs to life with entertainment for all, although the younger singles and couples tend to party the night away in the famous clubs of Playa de las Americas (a short taxi ride away), there is every form available locally.

Tenerife has a quite low tax regime, so Los Cristianos shopping is a favoured pastime, with snips to be found in high tech electronics, jewelry, booze and cigarettes, but remember tight restrictions apply to taking them back to the UK, if you break the restrictions you might have to pay import duty.

For those that get bored lazing by the pool or on the beach, there are plenty of Los Cristianos attractions and day trips to take or interesting sights to see, some of the most frequented are the dolphin and whale watching boat tours, pleasure trips on glass bottom cruisers, angling trips, party boats, aqua parks or my personal favourite, the trip to Mount Teide (unbelievable vistas). The more active tourists go for the premier class golf, horse back riding, trail biking or the Tenerife water sports including sailing, sub aqua diving and paragliding. Younger children are also well catered for with everything from ball parks to pedalos and play areas.

Nowadays with the aid of the internet, many people are ever increasingly looking away from package style holidays to Los Cristianos and are booking direct by locating their own hotel or apartment, cheap flights and car rental, indeed big savings can often be made especially for large groups. I personally advise that you check the availability and costs of the accommodation and plane flights, but pre book the air flights first as it is always easy to find somewhere to stay, but especially at high season times plane flights can be at quite a premium.
