Playa de las Americas, Tenerife in the Canary Islands, Spain has a reputation as being a youngsters dance and clubbing resort, this is a long way from the real truth as there is something there for all. It is definitely true that at midnight on "The Veronica Strip" the place comes alive with the younger generation drinking and clubbing the whole night away in the very loud dance clubs and music bars, but if you avoid this road in the late hours a good time can be had by everyone. For the family parties, couples and everyone else, Playa de las Americas has loads more to offer.

With the excellent Playa de las Americas weather and year round sun (after all, Las Americas is nearer to the African coast than Europe), excellent communications via the airport of Sur Reina Sofia (which is just a fast taxi ride away), it is open for all year round tourism and a high proportion of the 4 or 5 million visitors each year make their way to the south of Tenerife Island to Playa de las Americas. This ensures that unlike many of the big resorts on the Spanish mainland, which resemble ghost towns in winter, Las Americas is always busy.

Playa de las Americas was developed initially for the then new package holiday business 50 years ago, but now more and more tourists with the help of the web are booking their own holidays. There is a great selection and variety of Playa de las Americas hotels, with accommodation to cater for every part of the market. Nowadays increasingly there are also plenty of owners visiting their apartment or villa in the sun. There are bargains to be found in the local real estate market, with studios being purchased for as little as 80,000 euros (that is roughly 6,000 or 123,000$), so I can see this trend long continuing.

Most of the accommodation in Playa de las Americas has at least a communal pool where you can laze away the day soaking up the sun rays or one of the many fine beaches that are never that far away. They have everything visitors need for a good day out, with sunshades, loungers, showers, pedalos plus cafes and bars for when you are in need of refreshment. When you tire of that and want to do something more energetic, why not try one of the many Playa de las Americas Attractions like visiting the local water park, go on a glass bottomed boat cruise to catch sight of the dolphins or take one of the coach excursions that are available including the amazing Mount Teide.

For dining out there is an wide selection to choose from in Playa de las British market to delightful Spanish restaurants serving the local fish specialities, with lots of them having entertainment and all at reasonable prices. Bars targeted at every nationality seem to be on each corner, so you can get your favourite tipple and view the sky sports day or night.
